Metacritic.com (my review aggregator of choice) recently looked at films in which viewer ratings and critic ratings varied the most. I haven’t seen many of the films on the list but I noticed a few trends. Critics like their films more complex and challenging (at least intellectually and aesthetically) than audiences. Audiences like farces and romantic comedies more than critics.

The problem is we don’t know who the reviewers are and don’t know if they represent an accurate cross section of the viewing public. But this is what we have and I think it’s pretty interesting stuff.
