Better (two days) late than never…
If you’re curious about what a film/television editor does, not so much at a technical level but an artistic one… this is a great explanation about the process behind it. There are probably as many different philosophies about editing and how to edit as there are editors in the world but this is a great one.
One thing to note, this video focuses itself with editing picture. It doesn’t discuss sound, titles, music or visual effects etc. which are all things of which editors may be in charge and have to think about (or at least do an initial pass on). Though at the higher levels those aspects will often be refined by artists and technicians who specialize in those fields.
